About the Role

This role sits within the Australian Defence context, providing specialist support for Cyber Security Assessment and Authorisation (CSAA) activities under the CAF16 framework. The Cyber Assurance and Operations Specialist is responsible for developing, delivering and maintaining cyber security documentation and artefacts that support the assessment and authorisation of sustained systems and capabilities critical to Defence operations.

Working closely with Cyber Security Assessors, the Specialist contributes to all stages of the assessment and authorisation lifecycle, ensuring Defence systems meet rigorous security requirements and remain compliant throughout their operational life. The Specialist provides authoritative cyber security advice to Product Managers, System Managers and other stakeholders.

The role undertakes complex tasks associated with the development of assurance artefacts, including:

  • Security Risk Management Plans

  • System Security Plans

  • System Security Overviews

  • Incident Response Plans

  • Additional documentation as required by the System Manager or Cyber Security Assessor in accordance with the CSAA Framework

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver dedicated information security advisory services to assigned ICT programs and projects, ensuring compliance with Defence security obligations.

  • Develop, update and maintain security assurance documentation to support system assessment and authorisation activities.

  • Facilitate clear, effective communication across ICT program teams, security stakeholders, engineering groups, and broader project teams.

  • Contribute positively within a small, high-performing team, supporting shared objectives and project outcomes.

  • Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to uplift team capability and ensure consistent application of security practices.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with Defence policies, governance frameworks and security standards.

Roles / Responsibilities / Skills

  • Proven expertise in security assurance activities aligned with Australian Government and Defence security policies.

  • Demonstrated capability in producing high-quality system security documentation supporting assessment and authorisation processes.
